Spirituality in Action
Overview
Spirituality must be where it is not; otherwise, it becomes an abstract concept
Dr. Sfeir-Younis’s work on “Spirituality in Action” bridges the gap between contemplative practice and social transformation, demonstrating that meditation, mindfulness, and compassion are not escapes from the world but powerful tools for changing it. Beginning with his 2001 work on volunteering and 2004 call for a “revolution of values,” he has spent two decades showing that spiritual principles—when applied to leadership, economics, politics, and daily life—can heal our hurting world.
His frameworks for “Conscious Leadership” challenge the extractive, ego-driven models dominating corporations and governments. From spirituality in the workplace to the “Yoga of Politics,” he articulates how mindfulness, collective consciousness, and compassionate action can transform institutions. His teaching that “there will be no sustainable society without inner change” has become foundational for socially engaged Buddhism worldwide.
Through hundreds of talks, columns, and the 14 Precepts of Socially Engaged Buddhism, Dr. Sfeir-Younis trains practitioners to integrate spiritual practice with justice work. His 2025 book “A Voice for the Voiceless” and ongoing Humanity Transformation Conferences demonstrate that spirituality divorced from action perpetuates suffering, while action without spiritual foundation burns out. True transformation requires both: consciousness and concrete change working as one.
